The following is an article by Lorenzo Petracca, the great-nephew of the holy priest known as Padre Domenico da Cese, O.F.M. Capuchin. In this short video, one can see the childhood home, church and town where Padre Domenico (Emidio Petracca) grew up including the family crypt where the earthly remains of Padre Domenico currently lie.
Cese dei Marsi is a small hamlet of Avezzano located in the western part of Abruzzo, Cese’s people are not many, about 500, and during its history it was the birthplace of an illustrious person, Pietro Marso.
On March 27, 1905, Emidio Petracca, better known as Padre Domenico, was also born in this small village. It was in Cese that the first extraordinary events in the life of Padre Domenico took place, such as when as a child he predicted the terrible earthquake of January 13, 1915 which razed Avezzano and the neighboring villages (including Cese) to the ground. Also in the village was born the desire, in the little Emidio, to become a friar, even though his father Giovanni was against it. In fact, Padre Domenico was the first child and as we know in those days every single hand in the fields was important. But despite these first obstacles, Emidio did not surrender and succeeded in his dream.
Years later, after he had finished his studies to become a priest, Padre Domenico often returned to his childhood home. In fact, in Cese he was always awaited with trepidation by his younger brother Angelo and his family. Many times Padre Domenico stopped for a few days, but these, although few, were enough to always give some good agricultural advice to his beloved brother. The humble friar, in fact, had been a great farmer and knew very well how to make a productive land, moreover both in the convent of Luco and in that of Trasacco he had often helped the population in agricultural tasks, such as loading hay carts.
Even now some inhabitants of Cese remember the figure of Padre Domenico and how his arrival in the village was both welcomed by some, but also frowned upon by others.
Now this small town welcomes the mortal remains of the friar and in the video you can see the Chapel of Padre Domenico, the destination of many pilgrimages and where even today you can see many pilgrim buses going to pray. Also in the video you can admire the Church of Cese and the house where Padre Domenico was born and lived.

Cese dei Marsi è una piccola frazione di Avezzano situata nella parte occidentale dell’Abruzzo, gli abitati non sono molti, circa 500, e, durante la sua storia è stato il luogo natio di un personaggio illustre, Pietro Marso.
Il 27 marzo 1905 in questo piccolo borgo è nato anche Emidio Petracca, meglio conosciuto come Padre Domenico. Proprio a Cese accaddero i primi eventi straordinari della vita di Padre Domenico, come quando da bambino predisse il tremendo terremoto del 13 gennaio del 1915 che rase al suolo Avezzano e i paesi vicini (compreso Cese). Sempre nel paesino nacque il desiderio, nel piccolo Emidio, di farsi frate, nonostante suo padre Giovanni fosse contrario. In effetti Padre Domenico era il primo genito e come si sa a quei tempi ogni singola mano nei campi era importante. Ma nonostante questi primi ostacoli, Emidio non si diete per vinto e riuscì nel suo intento.
Anni più tardi, dopo che ebbe terminato gli studi per diventare sacerdote, Padre Domenico, fece spesso ritorno nel suo paese natio. A Cese infatti era sempre atteso con trepidazione dal suo fratello minore Angelo e dalla sua famiglia. Molte volte Padre Domenico si fermava per pochi giorni, ma questi, se pur pochi, bastavano per dare sempre qualche buon consiglio agricolo al suo amato fratello. L’umile frate, infatti, era stato un grande agricoltore e sapeva molto bene come rendere un terreno producente, inoltre sia nel convento di Luco che in quello di Trasacco aveva spesso aiutato la popolazione nelle mansioni agricole, come per esempio caricare i carretti di fieno.
Ancora adesso alcuni abitanti di Cese ricordano la figura di Padre Domenico e di come il suo arrivo in paese fosse, sia ben accetto da alcuni, ma anche mal visto da altri.
Ora il piccolo paese accoglie le spoglie mortali del frate e nel video si può notare la cappella di P. Domenico, meta di molti pellegrinaggi e dove ancora oggi si possono vedere molti pullman di pellegrini che si recano a pregare. Sempre nel video si può ammirare la Chiesa di Cese e la casa dove Padre Domenico è nato e vissuto.
